DESCRIPTION:Supporting your child in learning/beginning to understand and integrate their adoption story. \nThese days\, it’s a common\, agreed upon best practice adoptees should be told and know they are adopted from day one. However\, we’re learning it’s not enough for adoptees to know they are adopted. For their health\, well-being and identity formation\, they need and deserve more comprehensive information about their story. Even the parts which may be difficult to share or hear. If you’re an adoptive parent navigating this part of your parenting journey\, we’ve got you covered for some additional education and support! \nThis one morning workshop will cover: \nWhy your adoptee needs to know their entire story (even the hard parts) by the age of 13 and how to navigate this. \nHow adoption trauma/grief/loss may show up for your school aged adoptee. \nHow to create a spirit of openness in your home to support connection\, grieving and healing. \nHow to navigate conversations (& what language to use)about adoption with your child from a developmental lens and what responses you may get back from them. \nHow to give your child ownership and autonomy over their story when outsiders may try to nose their way in (privacy vs. secrecy). \n*This workshop will not cover navigating the specifics of Transracial adoption and navigating contact/connection with your child’s birth family.*

(Introduction to/discussion surrounding preverbal trauma/loss.) \nAge/developmentally appropriate language to use when talking about adoption with your child\, even if they are a newborn! \nConcrete ways to create a spirit of openness in your home regardless of if you have connection/contact with your child’s birth family (What should be hanging on your walls\, Books to have in your library\, Traditions to create\, Considerations for original and amended birth certificates) \nHow to weave your child’s story and birth family into both everyday life and special occasions (navigating birthdays and holidays) \nRecommendations for ongoing education/resources so you can best support your child for the long haul! \n*This workshop will not cover navigating the specifics of Transracial adoption and navigating contact/connection with your child’s birth family.*
