Adoptive Parenting 101: Ages 0-5, Cultivating a Foundation for Connection, Grieving and Healing

February 22, 2025 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Cultivating a foundation for connection, grieving and healing

Becoming a parent through adoption is not just an alternate path to a baby/child. It is embracing a unique, often complex, advanced type of parenting. Not necessarily an innate skillset. You deserve education and support as you embark on your journey of parenting!

This one morning workshop will cover:

How to get comfortable talking with your child about adoption AND the reason you need to begin talking with them about their adoption story the day they enter your home. (Introduction to/discussion surrounding preverbal trauma/loss.)

Age/developmentally appropriate language to use when talking about adoption with your child, even if they are a newborn!

Concrete ways to create a spirit of openness in your home regardless of if you have connection/contact with your child’s birth family (What should be hanging on your walls, Books to have in your library, Traditions to create, Considerations for original and amended birth certificates)

How to weave your child’s story and birth family into both everyday life and special occasions (navigating birthdays and holidays)

Recommendations for ongoing education/resources so you can best support your child for the long haul!

*This workshop will not cover navigating the specifics of Transracial adoption and navigating contact/connection with your child’s birth family.*
