Who We Serve
Adoption Constellation
We support whole constellations with everyday adoption fluency because when adoption is part of the story, everyday concerns can carry context beyond how they first appear.
Our specialized expertise across the adoption constellation is what makes our practice uniquely prepared to honor the nuanced layers of your story.
Whether you arrive as an adoptee, adoptive parent, birth parent, or another member of the adoption constellation, you will be met by therapists with both deep clinical skill and lived experience.
Get Started Here
When therapy is not adoptee-fluent, it can mirror the disconnection it is meant to repair.
Non-informed care can mean
- more explaining
- safety harder to feel
- misreading grief
- labeling survival as behavior
- overlooking identity
- deepening shame
Adoption-competent care means
- context first
- understanding loss
- recognizing loyalty binds
- welcoming complexity
- less translating
- relational safety
Adoptees are not here to educate their therapists on adoption.

Adoption Is Not One Story
Adoption can include love, loss, relief, grief, identity questions, loyalty conflicts, family complexity, disconnection, connection, repair, and lifelong meaning. At Beyond the Sun, one person’s experience does not have to erase or outrank another’s.
We support the full adoption constellation with care that is adoption-competent and trauma-informed.
Our work is not built around choosing sides. It is built around making room for the genuine emotional, relational, and developmental realities adoption can create across a lifetime.
You do not have to use language that does not fit you. Some people identify with the word mother, some as women who chose beyond their own path, or something else entirely. We respect the words you use for your own story.
