Adoptive Parenting 201: Ages 6-12
Supporting your child in learning/beginning to understand and integrate their adoption story.
These days, it’s a common, agreed upon best practice adoptees should be told and know they are adopted from day one. However, we’re learning it’s not enough for adoptees to know they are adopted. For their health, well-being and identity formation, they need and deserve more comprehensive information about their story. Even the parts which may be difficult to share or hear. If you’re an adoptive parent navigating this part of your parenting journey, we’ve got you covered for some additional education and support!
This one morning workshop will cover:
Why your adoptee needs to know their entire story (even the hard parts) by the age of 13 and how to navigate this.
How adoption trauma/grief/loss may show up for your school aged adoptee.
How to create a spirit of openness in your home to support connection, grieving and healing.
How to navigate conversations (& what language to use)about adoption with your child from a developmental lens and what responses you may get back from them.
How to give your child ownership and autonomy over their story when outsiders may try to nose their way in (privacy vs. secrecy).
*This workshop will not cover navigating the specifics of Transracial adoption and navigating contact/connection with your child’s birth family.*
